When do brake rotors need replacing on a Ford F-150?

The Ford F-150 is a work truck — if yours tows a trailer, hauls in the box, or runs a plow, the front brakes take a beating and wear faster than a commuter's would. Heavier trims and bigger wheel/brake packages also change which pad set fits, so the year alone doesn't decide it — the trim and brake option do. Rotors don't wear as fast as pads, but they take a hit in our climate: salt and freeze-thaw pit the surface, and a rotor that's been worn thin or warped shows up as a shudder or pulsing through the brake pedal when you slow down from speed. If your steering wheel shakes under braking, that's the classic warped-rotor symptom.

A good rule of thumb: many shops replace rotors in pairs (both fronts or both rears together) and often do rotors and pads at the same time, because fresh pads on a scored rotor won't bed in properly and will wear early. If you're already in there for pads, ask about the rotors.

Coated vs. bare — why it matters in Ontario

Coated rotors resist the surface rust that makes a bare rotor look terrible through an open wheel after one wet winter, and they hold up better against Bay-of-Quinte winters and the salt on the 401 corridor. We stock Bosch, quality OE-style, and coated-rotor lines built for road salt.
